Karl Rahner’s Idea of Love in the Duality of Agape and Eros: Reflection on the Double Commandment of Love

Abstract

The article analyses the correlative duality in Catholic theologian Karl Rahner’s idea of love by the Agape-Eros interpretation paradigm suggested by Swedish Protestant theologian Anders Nygren. It especially reflects the radical unity of the double commandment of love -“love for God” and“love for neighbour” in the tradition of Judeo-Christian faith and holds in esteem his proposal of the shift from the love for God to the love for neighbor in contemporary Christian ethical life.
